What's it all about?
Valentine's Heart Week is the Heart Foundation's annual awareness week, and this year's theme is
Love your Heart.
Throughout the week the Heart Foundation will encourage all New Zealanders to love their hearts by highlighting the need for heart healthy living and providing ideas and solutions that can make it fun!
Did you know that approximately 40% of all deaths each year are cardiovascular related - many of which are often avoidable? Statistics also show that more and more people in their twenties and thirties are being admitted to hospital with heart attacks than ever before. Other figures show that young adults are also dying at faster rates than people of the same age in previous generations. This change can be mostly attributed to unhealthy lifestyles.
So, take action now and join in the week's activities - taking care of your heart is fun and we'll show you how...whether it be taking part in one of our heart walks or enjoying one of our heart healthy romantic Valentine's meals.
The Heart Foundation also strongly encourages everyone to take its five minute risk quiz. If you answer 'yes' to any of the questions then you need to see your doctor or practice nurse for a cardiovascular risk assessment. By knowing your risk level you can make appropriate lifestyle changes to help you live a longer life.
During Valentine's Heart Week, the Heart Foundation's branches around New Zealand will be holding heart-healthy activities, organising community events and supporting our Wear Red for Heart Day in organisations across New Zealand.
Please support us and enjoy the week's activities.
